Elisabeth Lecourt

Elisabeth Lecourt was born in Oloron Saint Marie, France in 1972 then moved to London to gain her MA at The Royal College of Art. She now exhibits in Europe and the US.

Les Robes Géographiques started as a series of studies and sketches in 2002. As a cartographer depicts maps to understand the world we live in, Lecourt forces the maps to take the shapes of clothing, representing the wearer's habitat and identity, forming an intimate connection with the wearer.

Lecourt's art is one of disclosure, using life events in works ranging from story-telling, drawing, installation, painting, embroidered handkerchiefs and sculpture. Within Les Robes Géographiques Lecourt uses maps forming clothes and garments as a "rubbing" of the body and the soul. It is a continuation of personal thoughts found throughout her work, which she creates using a range of materials to provoke and extract emotions.
