John Taylor was born in 1955 and trained at the Central St. Martins School of Art London.
He takes his inspiration from post war British art and his work is informed by artists such as Hepworth and Nicholson. John creates visual sensations and ideas that mere representation cannot achieve by following his emotional response to the nature of abstraction. He finds this is an ever challenging and intuitive process.
John paints mainly on primed board or canvas using thin layers of paint to build up his subtle textured surfaces which can also include painted card shapes.
John has practised as a painter since 1986. He originally trained as a Theatre, Film and Television designer. In 1998 he was awarded a Fulbright Education Scholarship from the British Council which enabled him to travel widely throughout the USA lecturing on the value of art in cross cultural education.
John lives and works in South East London and his paintings are in many private collections in the UK and America.
