Joanna Veevers

Joanna Veevers was born in Sheffield and grew up in the Derbyshire Peak District.

A degree in Printed Textiles at Manchester School of Art, followed by an MA in Ceramics at the Royal College of Art, reinforced and informed an early fascination with drawing, pattern and surface which permeates all of Joanna’s work, which includes slip cast tiles and wall pieces, mosaics, drawings and prints.

These mixed media drawings were made during early 2022. The location is The Peak District near Hathersage in Derbyshire. They were done plein air and convey my deep-rooted connection with the area. They are about a sense of place, absence and longing and about my repeated tracings of footpaths that lace the moors and woods. They are an appreciation of that landscape with its distinctive drystone walls and fields, wild open spaces and enclosed clusters of woodland.
